The unbeatable fight for runs continued till the last over but India could not reach upto the target of 213 runs in the 3rd T20 against New Zealand. The match was crucial as it was a series deciding game. New Zealand with their overall performance defeated India by 4 runs in the 3rd T20 and won the series by 2-1.
Colin Munro’s 72 runs off 40 balls helped New Zealand to set the powerful target of 213 runs in 20 overs. The pitch was considered to be for the batsman and the team who played early got good benefits also. Rohit Sharma after winning toss took the decision of bowling first. The dismissal of Shikhar Dhawan in the early of the game was disappointing. In spite of that, all the players came and hit their best shots. Rohit Sharma although stayed for long time on the ground but at the crucial moment he also got caught behind the stumps. The pressure was increasing ball by ball because the total was more than 200.
Vijay Shankar handled the game a bit and made some attacking shots to pull off the pressure. His 43 runs off 28 balls put the required run rate a bit low. The entry of young Rishah Pant was superb. The sixes and fours in the first over made the audience more excited but as he dismissed the crowd and score board became a bit low. Hardik Pandaya then took the risk and continued the scoreboard. He made some airy shots in between. The way match was going for Indian, the difficulty for NZ was increasing. The fall of wickets of Hardik Pandaya and Mahendra Singh Dhoni came to be a negative sign in the final series deciding match for India.
Dinesh Kartik and Krunal Pandaya in last 5 overs played exceptionally well and brought the match close to last over. The last over was best from New Zealand as they stopped Team India from making runs. Thus, finally the 3rd T20 match as well as series came into the courtyard of New Zealand. It was great come back from the ODI loss for NZ. They lifted the series trophy after long way back. Rohit Sharma would be disappointed with this loss as he could not give winning trophy in the hands of young players. The team was full of young energy and they performed better keeping eye on huge target. Now team India should start focusing on upcoming series with Australia. Good day for New Zealand and congratulations to Kane Williamson and team for winning the series.
